Grey Mountain Carpet Entephria caesiata

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)


Wingspan 32-41 mm.

A mountain and moorland species, which occurs in suitable habitat from the Midlands northwards to northern Scotland and Ireland. It is well-known for its habit of resting on stone walls and rocks.

The rather variable adults fly from July to August.

The larvae feed on a number of low heathland plants such as heather (Calluna) and bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus).
