Broken-barred Carpet Electrophaes corylata
(Thunberg, 1792)
Wingspan 22-30 mm.
Occupying woodland, scrubland and other bushy places, this fairly common species occurs throughout most of Britain. It is fairly distinctive with the central dark band 'broken' in the middle, although there is an infrequent form albocrenata found in Scotland, that has this band absent.
The single generation is on the wing in May and June, when it is attracted to light.
The larvae feed on the foliage of a range of trees and bushes.
