Elachista kilmunella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Elachista kilmunella

Stainton, 1849

Wingspan c.10mm.

This upland species, occurring on acid heaths and boggy moorland, is distributed mostly in Northern Britain, from Wales through Northern England into most of Scotland.

The adults are externally similar to several other Elachista species, and are best identified with certainty by reference to the genitalic structure.

The moths themselves fly during the late afternoon, between May and August.

The larvae feed on various sedges (Carex spp.), mining the leaves.
