Elachista biatomella
(Stainton, 1848)
Wingspan c.8mm.
Apart from the two elongated black spots, this species can also show some darker speckling, though this is more pronounced in the male than the female.
It has a fairly wide but scattered distribution across much of England and Wales, occupying grassy habitats and heaths.
The larvae feed on sedge, notably glaucous sedge (Carex flacca), forming a whitish elongated mine containing frass.
There are two generations, with adults in May-June and in July-August.
