Diplodoma laichartingella

(Goeze, 1783)

[Synonyms: Diplodoma herminata]

Wingspan 10-15 mm.

Unlike some related species, both sexes of Diplodoma laichartingella have fully developed wings. The species has a scattered distribution througout much of the British Isles, and inhabits wooded areas.

The larva builds a case, covered with small fragments of plant matter and other particles, and feeds on lichens, decaying plant matter and detritus. The larval period usually lasts for two years.

Adult moths fly in one generation, during May and June.
