Dichomeris alacella

(Zeller, 1839)

[Synonyms: Acanthophila alacella]
Wingspan c. 14mm.

A scarce species, distributed rather locally in the southern half of England, with occasional records north to Yorkshire.

The adults, which can be attracted to light, fly during July and August.

The early stages are relatively poorly described, but the larvae are known to feed on lichens on tree-trunks.
