Oak Lutestring Cymatophorina diluta - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Oak Lutestring Cymatophorina diluta

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 33-36 mm.

A species of mature oak woodland, the ones occuring in Britain are a separate subspecies, hartwiegi.

Like other lutestrings, it can be variable, and there is a relatively plain, greyish form.

The single generation flies in August and September, and the caterpillars, which feed on oak (Quercus), are dull greenish yellow with a black head.
