Cosmopterix lienigiella

Wingspan c. 12.mm.

Unlike the other British Cosmopterix species, which all have variations of blackish, bright orange and silver metallic markings, this species is rather more reserved in coloration, whilst having similar patterning.

It occurs in southern and south-east England, inhabiting reedbeds, and moths are on the wing between late May and October.

The larvae feed on common reed Phragmites australis, creating a whitish blotch mine containing visible frass.
