Essex Y Cornutiplusia circumflexa

(Linnaeus, 1767)


Wingspan 34-50 mm.

A rare vagrant to these shores, said to have been taken in Essex around 1800. No further records occurred until 1979, when one occurred in Hampshire during a period of migrant activity elsewhere on the south coast.

Abroad, the species occurs in south-eastern Europe, Africa and commonly on Tenerife and the Canary Islands.
