Coleophora trigeminella

Wingspan c. 10mm.

A somewhat local species frequenting mainly the south-eastern counties of England, and virtually unrecorded for much of the 20th century, it has been found in a number of places since 1988.

The larvae construct a reddish brown cylindrical case from silk from which they feed on mainly the buds of their chosen foodplants, hawthorn (crataegus) and apple ( Malus).

The adult moths have ochreous forewings with acreamy costal streak. They fly in June but are quite difficult to come by.
