Coleophora solitariella

Zeller, 1849

Wingspan c. 11mm.

This somewhat unassuming species is resident in the southern half of Britain, although there are a few mainly older records from further north.

It inhabits woodland and hedgerows and prefers shady laocations.

The larva feeds mostly on greater stitchwort (Stellaria holostea), forming a whitish case from within which it feeds.

Adult moths are on the wing in June/July but are retiring in habits and difficult to find.
