Coleophora salicorniae - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Coleophora salicorniae

Heinemann & Wocke, [1876]

Wingspan 12-14 mm.

A local species, inhabiting saltmarshes around the coast of England and parts of Wales.

The larvae feed on glasswort (Salicornia spp.), and are difficult to find except for a short period when their cases are visible in autumn. Subsequently the larva burrows into the mud to spend the winter in a silken tube.

The relatively plain, buffish adults emerge from the mud in late July or August, and can roam inland, where they may be attracted to light.
