Coleophora limosipennella

(Duponchel, [1843])

Wingspan 10-13 mm.

This species produces a distinctive larval case in its later stages with a noticeably serrated upper edge, and affixed almost parallel to the leaf surface.

The foodplant is elm (Ulmus), the larvae overwintering when small and recommencing feeding in late spring.

Distributed mainly in the south and south-east of England, the elusive adults emerge in June and July.
