Coleophora fuscocuprella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Wingspan c. 7.5-10mm.

This species is distributed mainly in the southern counties of England, there are a number of early records from north-west England dating back to the 19th century.

The larva forms a short, pistol-like case from which it feeds on the lower leaf surface of hazel (Corylus avellana) or birch (Betula). the feeding pattern is quite distinctive, peppering the leaf with many small blotches.

Adult moths are quite small and drab, and fly between May and June.
