Scarce Chocolate-tip Clostera anachoreta

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan c. 37 mm.

A Red Data Book species in the British Isles, being restricted to the shingle beaches at Dungeness, Kent. It is also an occasional migrant, as adults are sometimes encountered elsewhere in the south.

Similar to Chocolate-tip, but has a white line running through the chocolate patch, with a brown spot beyond.

There are two generations, flying in April and then in August. The larvae feed on various sallow (Salix) and poplar (Populus) species.
