Chionodes fumatella
(Douglas, 1850)
Wingspan c. 15mm.
Fairly well distributed in England and Wales, and reaching parts of eastern Scotland, this species was until fairly recently restricted to sandy coastal locations, but nowadays can be found quite a distance inland.
The flight time of the adults is from June to August, and the species can be attracted to light.
The larval stages are not very well described, but mosses are believed to be the foodplants.
