Catoptria pinella

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Wingspan 18-24 mm.

Occurring in boggy heathland, fens and marshes, this species is locally distributed over parts of Britain, but is commonest in the south and east.

The larvae feed on grasses growing in these damp habitats, such as cotton-grass.

It flies by night in July and August and tends to rest in trees by day.
