Burren Green Calamia tridens

(Hufnagel, 1766)

Wingspan 37-42 mm.

An intriguing species, totally different in appearance to its close relatives, and in the British Isles, restricted to a small area in Co. Clare, Ireland known as the Burren, where it was discovered in 1949.

Abroad it occurs throughout temperate Europe.

The adult moths fly in July and August and can be attracted by light. The exact foodplant in the wild is not certain, but is suspected to be blue moor-grass (Sesleria caerulea).
