Assara terebrella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Assara terebrella

(Zincken, 1818)

Wingspan 21-24 mm.

Showing conspicuous whitish markings and cross-lines on a reddish-brown ground colour, this moth is not too difficult to identify.

The larvae feed inside the cones of Norway spruce (Picea abies), causing them to become distorted and stunted.

Flying between June and August, the moth can be found in spruce plantations in the south of England, but is rather local.
