Aroga velocella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Aroga velocella

(Zeller, 1839)

Wingspan 14-19 mm.

This species has a predominantly eastern and central distribution in Britain, occurring in south and south-east England, sporadically in central England, and in the very south-east of Scotland.

There are two generations, with adults at large in May and again in August. The moths fly in afternoon sunshine and also after dark.

The favoured habitat is moorland and heathland. The foodplant is sheeps' sorrel (Rumex acetosella) and the larva feeds in a silken gallery at the base of the plant.
