Argolamprotes micella

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan c.12 mm.

A very local species in Britain, only occurring in the south-west of England and south Wales, and not discovered here until 1963. It is quite distinctive, having an iridescent sheen to the forewings, with white markings.

The adults fly in July and are attracted to light. They frequent woodland, gardens and hedgerows.

The larval foodplants are raspberry (Rubus idaeus) and blackberry (R. fruticosus), feeding in flowering shoots where they are hard to detect.
