Rest Harrow Aplasta ononaria

(Fuessly, 1783)

Wingspan 26-31 mm.

A subtly-marked species, this moth is a member of the subfamily Geometrinae, or Emeralds, whose other British members are all greenish in colour.

It is locally distributed in coastal areas of the south and south-east of England, and also occasionally appears elsewhere as a suspected migrant.

As the English name suggests, the larval foodplant is restharrow (Ononis repens).

The adults fly mainly in June and July.
