Small Clouded Brindle Apamea unanimis
(Hübner, [1813])
Wingspan 30-38 mm.
Inhabiting marshes, fens and similar damp habitats, this species is widespread but local in most of Britain, including southern Scotland.
The adults are on the wing in June and July, and occasionally come to light.
The larva feeds on grasses, including reed-canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea), but unlike its close relatives, feeds up before winter and hibernates before pupating in the spring.
