Dentated Pug Anticollix sparsata
(Treitschke, 1828)
Wingspan 20-26 mm.
Although usually grouped with the Pugs, this species is structurally different than true Pugs, the male lacking the sclerotised plate on the underside of the abdomen, which is often diagnostic to species level.
The larval foodplant is yellow loosestrife, Lysimachia vulgaris, both flowers and leaves being consumed.
A local and nationally scarce species, there are scattered colonies usually in damp areas such as fens, in England and parts of Wales. The flight period is during June and July, and the larvae can be found from July to September.
