Anerastia lotella

(Hübner, [1813])

Wingspan c.19-27 mm.

A mainly coastal species, occurring in sand dunes and slacks, and distributed around the coastlines of much of Britain to southern Scotland. It also occurs in the inland sandy habitats of the East Anglian Brecks.

The larvae feed on sandhill grasses, such as marram (Ammophila arenaria) and other Poaceae, where they construct a silken gallery around the stem bases and roots.

Flying in July, the adults can be attracted to light after dark.
