Ancylis unguicella

(Linnaeus, 1758)


Wingspan 12-18 mm.

Distributed throughout much of the British Isles, this species frequents hills and moors and is generally commoner in the more upland regions.

Flying between May and July, the adults are quite distinctive with narrow, pointed forewings and strong cross-markings.

The larvae feed on heathers such as bell heather (Erica cinerea) and Calluna.
