Wingspan c.15-20 mm.

A reasonably common and widespread species in Britain extending into southern Scotland and in Ireland, and inhabiting wet heaths and moorland.

The adults fly in May and June, occasionally having a second generation in the south.

The larval foodplants are heath (Erica) and birch (Betula), the larvae feeding within spun leaves.
