Ancylis subarcuana - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Ancylis subarcuana

(Douglas, 1847)

Wingspan c.15 mm.

A rather local species, though widely distributed, full details of its distribution are somewhat clouded by the fact it was formerly conspecific with A. geminana, and considered a form of that species.

Compared to the nominate form, it is rather more sombre in appearance with weaker or reduced markings and a paler, more greyish ground colour.

Frequenting dry pastures and sandy shorelines, the larva is associated with creeping willow (Salix repens), spinning a leaf into a pod and feeding within.

The adult moths fly between May and August, possibly in two generations.
