Anania funebris
(Ström, 1768)
Wingspan c. 21 mm.
A highly distinctive day-flying species, occurring locally in scattered locations throughout the British Isles, with a preference for limestone districts.
The adults are on the wing from late May to July, and have a peculiar spinning motion when in flight.
The larva feeds in a slight web, on the leaves and flowers of goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea) and occasionally dyer's greenweed (Genista tinctoria).
