Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Light Feathered Rustic Agrotis cinerea

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 33-40 mm.

A very variable moth, with examples ranging from pale buff to dark brown with varying markings.

Distributed mainly in the south of England, but also in the Welsh hills, the favoured habitats are calcareous soils, shingle beaches, quarries and similar stony areas.

The flight period is May and June, when the males especially come to light.

The larvae feed on low-growing plants, including wild thyme (Thymus praecox).
