Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Spring Usher Agriopis leucophaearia

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 23-28 mm.

A very variable species, with males varying from almost black-and-white to a drab greyish and rather plain appearance. The females are wingless.

The adults emerge in February and March. The females climb up tree trunks and the males fly weakly to them, also being attracted to light.

It is a fairly common species in England and Wales, local in Scotland.

The larvae feed mainly on oak (Quercus).
