Agonopterix nanatella
(Stainton, 1849)
Wingspan c. 15 mm.
A relatively local species, frequenting limestone and chalk districts, mainly in the southern counties of England and Wales, although there are populations in North-west and North-east England.
The larvae feed between April and June on carline thistle (Carlina vulgaris), rolling leaves upward, causing the silvery undersides to become visible and betraying their presence.
Adults are on the wing in July and August.
