Wingspan c. 20 mm.

A rare and local species in Britain, occurring infrequently in scattered woodland habitats in the south of England. In recent years it has been noticed a number of times in South Devon and South-east Cornwall, and the individual shown from Wells, Somerset was the first county record for 67 years.

The adults have a fairly distinctive appearance, having a rufous ground colour with noticeable black longitudinal streak, and pale raised scale-tufts.

They fly from July onwards, and hibernate over the winter as an adult.

The larvae feed on spun leaves of a range of deciduous trees, including blackthorn (Prunus spinosa).
