Sussex Emerald Thalera fimbrialis

(Scopoli, 1763)

Wingspan 25-30 mm.

In Britain this moth is confined as a breeding species to a small area of south-east England, on shingle beaches. It was formerly found in Sussex, hence the common name, but no longer occurs there. It has also occurred several times as a migrant along the south coast.

It flies in July and August, and the larvae feed mostly on wild carrot (Daucus carota).

A Red Data Book species, it is protected in Britain.
