Sophronia humerella

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan c.12mm. There are just a handful of quite old records of this species from scattered localities in England, but it is thought that these, if genuine, could have been migrants, presumably from Continental Europe where the species occurs. The adults are quite distinctive, so it seems unlikely that they would have been misidentifications. Abroad they fly in a single generation in July. The larvae are thought to feed on field wormwood (Artemesia campestris) but little is documented of the lifecycle.
