Blair's Wainscot Sedina buettneri

(Hering, 1858)

Wingspan 28-34 mm.

An extremely local resident and occasional migrant. It formerly bred in the Isle of Wight, where it was discovered in 1945, until the habitat was destroyed in 1951.

In 1996 a new population was discovered in Dorset, and subsequently several colonies have been found nearby.

The larvae feed inside the stems of lesser pond-sedge (Carex acutiformis).

The flight period is during September and October.
