Fortified Carpet Scotopteryx moeniata - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Fortified Carpet Scotopteryx moeniata

(Scopoli, 1763)

Wingspan c. 32mm.

Apart from a couple of unconfirmed records from northern England in the late 19th Century, and one in Jersey in 1973, this species has otherwise not been recorded from Britain.

It is present in mainland Europe where adult moths are on the wing from June or July to August/September, occupying open pine forests and heathland habitats.

Among the larval foodplants are dyer's greenweed (Genista tinctoria) and broom (Cytisus scoparius).
