Middle Lace Border Scopula decorata

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan c. 22mm.

This rather attractive species is reasonably common in parts of continental Europe, but although listed as a British species, there is no concrete evidence of it ever having occurred here.

Abroad, the species inhabits dry grassland and woodland glades, preferring sandy soils. The larvae feed on thyme (Thymus) and there are two generations of the adults, flying in May and June, and again from late July to early September.
