Wingspan 9 to 12mm.

This is a moorland and heathland species, with a more northern distibution, although it is found widely throughout Britain.

The larva feeds on bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) and the moth can be seen in the late afternoon/early evening sunshine, in flight over its foodplant, in May and June.
