Hoary Plume Platyptilia isodactylus

(Zeller, 1852)

Wingspan c. 19-29mm.

This moth has a rather local and scattered distribution in Britain, being found in the southern counties of England and Wales, and in northern Scotland including the Hebrides, occupying marshy or swampy habitats.

Adult moths are on the wing in June and then again in August and September, and can be attracted to light.

The larvae feed on marsh ragwort (Senecio aquaticus), in the stems, and their presence is sometimes revealed by frass exuded at the axil of a leaf.
