Wingspan 22-26 mm.
A local species, inhabiting sand-dunes and shingle beaches, mainly in the south-east of England.
The larvae feed on sea pea (Lathyrus japonicus), common bird's foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) and spiny restharrow (Ononis spinosa), feeding internally in the pods.
The adults are on the wing from June to August and fly during warm evenings.
