Nematopogon metaxella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Nematopogon metaxella

(Hübner, [1813])

Wingspan c.16 mm.

Distributed in England and South Wales, with a few scattered records in Ireland, this longhorn species is to be found in wooded and damp fenland areas.

The larvae feed, like others in the group, in a case among detritus and leaf-litter on the ground.

The adult moths fly in June and July, sometimes in the afternoons, but also towards dusk. They resemble other Nematopogon species, but have a noticeable dark mark in the centre of the forewing.
