European Vine Moth Lobesia botrana

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan c.12-15mm.

This European species is known as a pest of vineyards in its native region of Southern Europe and North Africa, the larvae feeding on a variety of trees and shrubs, but often on the flowers and fruit of grape.

In Britain it is a rare immigrant, being first discovered in Middlesex, when three were taken at light in July 1976.

There are two, sometimes three or four generations abroad.
