Small Yellow Wave Hydrelia flammeolaria

(Hufnagel, 1767)

Wingspan 14-20 mm.

A diminutive but rather attractive moth, this species occurs most commonly in the south of England, becoming gradually scarcer further north into Scotland. Only one record is known for Ireland.

The larvae feed on field maple (Acer campestris) or, more commonly in the north, alder (Alnus glutinosa).

The single brood flies in June and July, and is often attracted to light.
