Grass Webworm Herpetogramma licarsisalis

(Walker, 1859)

Wingspan c. 20mm.

Only a handful of records of this species have reached the British Isles, since the first record on the Isle of Wight in 1998. Other records have occurred on the south coast, from Kent to Cornwall.

It is an Old World tropical species and has recently colonised parts of the Canary Island archipelago.

The larvae feed on grasses, and in some parts of its range is a pest of turf and pastures.
