Epicallima formosella - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Epicallima formosella

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

[Synonyms: Dafa formosella]
Wingspan c. 14mm.

This species was recorded in Britain in 1845 in Essex, but since then has not been noted in these islands. It is distributed elsewhere in Europe, and eastwards to the Middle East.

The adult moths fly in July, and the larvae feed under dead bark from around September onwards.

A very attractive species, the scientific name formosella is derived from the latin formosus, meaning beautiful.
