Dusky Thorn Ennomos fuscantaria

(Haworth, 1809)

Wingspan 35-40 mm.

Distributed over England and Wales, this moth can be reasonably common in the southern part of its range, but scarcer further north.

One of the plainer-looking of Britain's 'Thorns', it flies from August to early October.

The species is found in deciduous woods and their margins, and suburban habitats, where the larval foodplant, ash (Fraxinus) grows.
