Cnephasia communana - Distribution map

Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

Cnephasia communana

(Herrich-Schäffer, 1851)

Wingspan c. 20mm.

Many of the Cnephasia species are externally very similar, and often to be confident of identification, dissection is necessary.

C. communana is one of the earliest to fly, being on the wing during May. It frequents meadows and rough grassland, and is present in the southern counties of England although it can be rather local.

The larvae feed on a range of herbaceous plants, although details of the early stages are not well represented in the available literature.
