Please note that the NBN Gateway map service has been terminated as of 1 April 2017.

As soon as a replacement map service is available, distribution maps will hopefully appear here again.

In the meantime, you can get some idea of distribution from the NBN Atlas website.

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Wingspan 32-38 mm.

Occupying mainly woodland in the south, and wet moorland in the north, this is a spring-flying species, appearing in the first warm days of March and April.

It is fairly common and widely distributed in Britain.

The larvae feed nocturnally in late spring on several herbaceous plants such as groundsel (Senecio vulgaris) and bedstraw (Galium).
