Wingspan 16-19 mm.
An uncommon and local species, this moth inhabits rough ground in Wales and the north-west of England.
The adults vary in the intensity of the rufous coloration, but usually have a more or less noticeably reticulated pattern.
Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) and mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) are the foodplants, the larvae feeding on the rootstock.
May to July is the main flight period, the moths flying during the afternoon and evening.
